Long distance airport transfers from London airports require a bit more planning than a standard airport-to-hotel journey. Journey times of 90 minutes or more mean that flight delays, school holiday traffic, and roadworks can all affect arrival times. Our drivers monitor road conditions in real time and adjust routes accordingly — but we recommend building in some buffer time for journeys over 90 minutes, particularly for cruise departures where missing embarkation has serious consequences.
Cruise ships do not wait. Embarkation typically closes 90–120 minutes before departure, and late arrivals — regardless of reason — will miss the ship. For Southampton, Portsmouth, and Dover transfers, we strongly recommend booking a departure time that allows at least 2 hours before your embarkation close time. Many experienced cruise travellers choose to book a hotel near the port the night before rather than risk a same-day London transfer for very early morning departures.
For university arrivals (September–October and January), Oxford and Cambridge roads can be heavily congested on move-in weekends. We recommend specifying your exact college name and postcode when booking — Oxford alone has 39 colleges spread across the city, and Cambridge has 31. Some colleges have specific vehicle access restrictions; our drivers are briefed on these for both cities. If you are arriving with full student luggage, the EQV MPV with six large cases of capacity is the recommended vehicle.
